Overview

An advanced programme for senior planners, project controls leads, and planning managers — building schedule control capability through progress governance, delay indicators, analytics, and recovery planning on major GCC construction and infrastructure programmes.

Description

Advanced Primavera P6 & Integrated Schedule Control — Full Curriculum

Eight modules building advanced schedule control capability — from architecture and diagnostics through progress measurement, recovery planning, the schedule-risk and claims interfaces, to a capstone recovery package.

Programme Highlights

Advanced Multi-Project Architecture

Build EPS hierarchy, coding strategy, and a controls plan that hold up across dozens of interconnected schedules.

Rigorous Schedule Diagnostics

Apply DCMA-style 14-point checks that catch broken logic, illogical float, and buried negative lag before they cost you.

Credible Recovery Planning

Build what-if scenarios, crashing, and fast-tracking options that give steering committees genuine confidence in a recovery path.

Capstone Recovery & Reporting Package

Analyse a delayed schedule and build a complete recovery and reporting package, ready to apply on a live programme.

Course Curriculum — 8 Modules

01

Advanced Schedule Architecture

WBS/Coding Strategy, Multi-Project Schedules & Controls Plan

This module moves beyond single-project scheduling into the architecture senior planners must design for complex, multi-project GCC programmes. Participants build advanced WBS and activity coding strategies that support consistent roll-up reporting across dozens of interconnected schedules, avoiding the ad hoc coding conventions that make portfolio-level analysis unreliable. The module covers multi-project schedule structuring in P6 — EPS hierarchy design, project grouping, and cross-project relationship management for programmes spanning multiple contractors common on Saudi, UAE, and Qatari megaprojects. Participants design responsibility structures that assign clear activity ownership across planning, engineering, and construction teams, and close with controls plan development: the governing document that defines how a schedule will be built, updated, and controlled throughout a programme's life.

02

Schedule Quality and Diagnostics

DCMA-Style Checks, Logic Health, Constraints, Leads/Lags & Baseline Integrity

A schedule with poor logic health produces confident-looking dates that are simply wrong. This module builds rigorous schedule diagnostic skills, centred on DCMA-style 14-point assessment techniques adapted for GCC contract requirements — checking logic completeness, hard constraint usage, and relationship types systematically rather than relying on visual inspection. Participants examine leads and lags critically, understanding how negative lag in particular can quietly compress a schedule's true duration without an honest logic change. The module covers float analysis and the identification of illogical high-float activities that signal broken logic rather than genuine schedule slack, and closes with baseline integrity discipline: protecting the approved baseline from silent changes while enabling the controlled baseline revisions that legitimate scope changes require.

03

Progress Measurement Systems

Physical Progress Rules, Quantity-Based Measurement, Earned Schedule & Update Governance

Progress percentages that don't reflect physical reality corrupt every downstream analysis built on the schedule. This module builds rigorous progress measurement systems, starting with physical progress rules that define exactly how completion is assessed for different activity types rather than leaving it to individual planner judgment. Participants apply quantity-based measurement techniques that tie progress directly to installed quantities on measurable work, common on GCC civil and MEP-heavy construction. The module introduces earned schedule concepts — extending earned value logic into the time dimension to produce schedule performance indicators that behave better than traditional SPI near project completion. The module closes with update governance: the disciplined monthly update cycle, data date management, and out-of-sequence progress handling that keeps a live schedule defensible.

04

Recovery and Acceleration

What-If Scenarios, Crashing, Fast Tracking & Resequencing

When a schedule slips, senior planners are expected to produce credible recovery options, not just report the delay. This module builds practical recovery planning skills, starting with what-if scenario modelling in P6 — testing multiple recovery approaches against the live schedule without disturbing the baseline or current update. Participants examine crashing techniques (adding resources to compress duration) and fast tracking (overlapping sequential activities) as distinct recovery levers, understanding the cost, risk, and quality trade-offs each introduces on GCC construction programmes. The module covers resequencing logic — restructuring remaining work to recover time without adding resources — and closes with recovery schedule presentation: packaging a recovery plan in a way that gives sponsors and steering committees confidence the proposed path is genuinely achievable.

05

Schedule-Risk Interface

Risk Drivers, Uncertainty, Monte Carlo Concepts & Primavera Risk Analysis

A deterministic schedule hides the uncertainty every complex project actually carries. This module introduces the interface between P6 scheduling and quantitative schedule risk analysis, building participants' understanding of how risk drivers translate into schedule uncertainty. Participants examine uncertainty modelling concepts — three-point duration estimating and probability distributions — as the foundation for risk-adjusted schedule analysis. The module introduces Monte Carlo simulation concepts at a practical level, explaining how thousands of schedule iterations produce a probabilistic completion date range rather than a single deterministic figure. Participants examine the P6-to-Primavera Risk Analysis interface — how schedule data flows between the two tools — and close with interpretation skills for reading risk analysis outputs in a way that informs realistic contingency and reporting decisions.

06

Claims Interface

Event Fragnet, Contemporaneous Updates & Delay Indicators

Senior planners are frequently the first line of defence in a delay dispute, and P6 discipline determines whether the schedule supports or undermines a future claim. This module builds the P6-specific practices that keep a schedule claims-ready without requiring planners to become forensic delay analysts themselves. Participants practise event fragnet construction — inserting a structured sub-network of activities to model a specific delay event's impact within the live schedule — and build contemporaneous update discipline: capturing status, delays, and their causes at the time they occur rather than reconstructing them later. The module covers delay indicator flagging within P6 and closes with evidence preservation technique — archiving schedule versions, update backups, and supporting narratives so a schedule's history remains defensible if it is later required for delay analysis or a formal claim.

07

Integrated Reporting

Lookahead, Critical Items, Dashboards & Narrative Reporting

A schedule update is only useful once it is translated into reporting that drives decisions. This module builds integrated reporting skills that connect P6 outputs to the audiences who rely on them. Participants build lookahead reports appropriate for site and delivery teams, and design critical items reporting that filters an entire schedule down to the handful of activities a steering committee actually needs to see. The module covers dashboard-ready data extraction from P6 for downstream visualisation tools, and narrative reporting technique — pairing schedule data with plain-language explanation of what changed and why. The module closes with executive decision framing: structuring integrated reports so that steering committees on GCC programmes are presented with clear options rather than raw data requiring interpretation.

08

Capstone Recovery Plan

Analysing a Delayed Schedule and Preparing a Recovery and Reporting Package

The programme closes with an applied capstone: participants analyse a realistic delayed schedule modelled on common GCC project situations, drawing on every skill built across the previous seven modules. Working from a schedule showing genuine slippage, logic issues, and progress anomalies, participants run diagnostic checks, identify root causes, model recovery scenarios, and assemble a complete recovery and reporting package — including lookahead, critical items, and narrative explanation. Facilitator and peer feedback focuses on whether the finished package would genuinely convince a steering committee that the proposed recovery path is realistic and well-founded, on a live GCC construction or infrastructure programme.
