Course Curriculum — 4 Modules
Project Management Fundamentals & Core Concepts
This module builds the terminology and conceptual foundation that everything else in the certification rests on — and that carries the largest single weight in the CAPM® exam. Participants start with the formal definition of a project and the characteristics that distinguish project work from ongoing operations: temporary endeavour, unique deliverable, and progressive elaboration. The relationships between projects, programmes, and portfolios are mapped in full, together with the role of the Project Management Office (PMO) — supportive, controlling, and directive PMO types — and how PMO structures operate inside large GCC delivery organisations such as government infrastructure programmes in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where portfolio-level governance over hundreds of concurrent Vision 2030 projects is standard practice. Organisational structures are examined as an exam-critical topic: functional, matrix (weak, balanced, strong), and projectised structures, and how each affects the project manager's authority, resource availability, and reporting lines. The classic project constraints — scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, and risk — are covered as an interdependent system rather than a static triangle. The module then addresses the five process groups (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing), predictive and adaptive project life cycles and how to recognise which life cycle a scenario question is describing, and closes with the project charter: its purpose, its authorising function, the information it must contain, and why the charter formally empowers the project manager before detailed planning begins.
Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies
The predictive approach remains the dominant delivery method on construction, engineering, oil and gas, and government infrastructure projects across the GCC — the contract environments of Saudi Aramco, ADNOC, SABIC, and the major ministries where fully planned baselines are a contractual requirement, not a preference. This module covers the complete predictive management landscape as tested on the CAPM® exam. Stakeholder management addresses identification, the power/interest grid, and engagement assessment; team management covers acquiring, developing, and leading project teams, motivation models, and conflict resolution approaches. Scope management is covered from requirements collection through the scope statement, work breakdown structure (WBS), WBS dictionary, and scope validation and control. Schedule management builds from activity definition and sequencing through duration estimation, the critical path method, float calculation, leads and lags, and schedule compression via crashing and fast-tracking. Cost management covers estimation techniques, budget determination, and the earned value management vocabulary — PV, EV, AC, SV, CV, SPI, and CPI — that appears repeatedly in exam questions. Quality management distinguishes quality planning, assurance, and control, including the cost of quality model. Risk management traverses identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, response strategies for threats and opportunities, and risk register maintenance. Procurement covers contract types and the make-or-buy decision, and integration management ties the entire framework together through the project management plan, integrated change control, and formal project closure.
Agile Frameworks & Methodologies
Adaptive delivery is no longer confined to software teams — digital transformation programmes at organisations such as DEWA, stc, and the smart-government initiatives across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar increasingly run on iterative frameworks, and the CAPM® exam tests agile literacy accordingly. This module begins with the Agile Manifesto's four values and twelve principles, examining what each principle means in practical delivery terms and how exam questions test the mindset behind the wording rather than rote recall. The Scrum framework is covered in full: the three roles (product owner, scrum master, and developers) and the accountability boundaries between them, the five events (sprint, sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint review, and sprint retrospective), and the three artifacts (product backlog, sprint backlog, and increment) together with their commitments — product goal, sprint goal, and definition of done. Kanban is presented as the flow-based alternative: visualising work, limiting work in progress, managing flow, and reading a Kanban board under exam conditions. Business Analysis Frameworks
Business analysis carries the second-largest weight in the CAPM® exam and is the domain most candidates underestimate — it tests whether a project professional can connect delivered outputs to the business needs that justified the project in the first place. This module opens with the business environment: how organisational strategy, market conditions, and regulatory context shape project selection, and how a business case, needs assessment, and benefits realisation plan establish the value logic before any project work begins. Benefits realisation is covered as a lifecycle discipline — defining measurable benefits, assigning benefit owners, and tracking benefit delivery beyond project closure — the governance pattern applied on major transformation programmes across GCC public entities, where funding approval increasingly depends on demonstrated benefit tracking rather than output delivery alone. Requirements management covers the requirement types (business, stakeholder, solution, and transition requirements), requirement attributes, the traceability matrix, and how requirements baseline and change control operate in both predictive and adaptive environments. Stakeholder engagement is addressed from the business analysis perspective: identifying the individuals and groups affected by a solution, analysing their influence and communication needs, and sustaining engagement through the elicitation cycle. Elicitation techniques are covered in exam-relevant depth — interviews, workshops, focus groups, observation, surveys, document analysis, and prototyping — including when each technique is appropriate and the follow-up confirmation that turns raw input into validated requirements. The module closes with requirements monitoring: tracking requirement status through delivery, managing requirement changes, and verifying that the accepted solution actually satisfies the documented need.
